Gautam Gambhir Awards
In 2008, Gautam Gambhir was awarded the Arjuna Award- India’s second-highest sports honour. In 2009, he ranked #1 batsman in International Cricket Council (ICC) Test ranking. In the same year, he received the ICC Test Player of the Year award.
In 2019, Gambhir received the Padma Shri from the Government of India, This is the fourth-highest civilian award.
Gautam Gambhir IPL Career
Gautam Gambhir played for the Delhi Daredevils in IPL for US $725,000. In the inaugural season of IPL, he became the second-highest run-scorer with 534 runs from 14 matches. For his performance in 2008, he was named the Cricinfo IPL XI. He became the captain of Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2010. He was the only player from the team to have scored more than 1000 runs that season.
In IPL 2011, he was the only player in the highest demand during the auction. He was signed up for $2.4 million by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), which made him the highest-paid cricketer then. The team went on to win the IPL Championship trophy in 2012 and 2014 under his captaincy. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on their own home ground and won the trophy in 2012. He was the leading run-scorer for KKR. For his unbeatable performance that season, Gambhir was named the Cricinfo IPL XI.
In 2012 itself, he scored 6 half-centuries out of 9 matches from his team and became the second player to cross the 2000 runs mark in the history of IPL. He also became the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament. In 2014, he, along with Kolkata Knight Riders, won against Kings XI Punjab by 3 wickets. He led Kolkata Knight Riders to the playoffs in 2016 and 2017 seasons and stayed as the highest-runs scorer for the team.
In 2018, he was acquired by Delhi Daredevils for Rs. 2.8 crores and became the captain of the team.
