The Kerala Motor Vehicles Taxation Act 1976, incorporates the laws relatable to the levy of road tax on motor vehicles, passenger vehicles and goods carriage vehicles. As per the act, no Vahan tax will be levied on the vehicle, which is kept by a dealer or a manufacturer for trade.
Kerala road tax is calculated on various factors such as vehicle weight, the purpose of the vehicle, engine capacity, seating capacity, vehicle age etc.

A vehicle owned by the disabled person used solely for the own use will be exempted from the payment of Vahan. Vehicles that are used for the agricultural purpose can claim the payment of vehicle tax.
