The Goa road tax falls under the purview of the Directorate of Transport. Similar to other states, Goa Taxes are also determined on the Basis of vehicle cost, age, engine power, length and width of the vehicle and so on. Road tax is mandatory for all those who own a vehicle, whether it is a two-wheeler or a four-wheeler.

The taxes in Goa are calculated on the basis of the vehicle and it is applicable to all sorts of vehicles such as - two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers, etc. The taxes are applicable for both transport and non-transport vehicles and are collected through Section 4 of the Motor Vehicle Taxation Act, 1996.

Tax on Two Wheelers

Road tax in Goa for two-wheelers are imposed on the basis of the cost of the vehicle regardless of engine capacity.

The tax rates for the two-wheelers in Goa as follows:

Price Road Tax
Up to Rs. 2 lakhs 8% of the cost of the vehicle
Above Rs. 2 lakhs 12% of the cost of the vehicle

Tax on Four Wheeler

Goa road tax for four-wheeler is calculated on the basis of cost purchase of the vehicles.

The following table showcases the Tax Rate for 4 wheelers:

Price Road Tax
Up to Rs. 6 lakhs 8% of the cost of the vehicle
Above Rs. 6 lakh and up to Rs. 10 lakh 9% of the cost of the vehicle
Above Rs. 10 lakh 10% of the cost of the vehicle

How to Pay Goa Road Tax Online?

The online procedure for Goa Road Tax online is mentioned below:

  • Visit the website goatransport[dot]gov[dot]in
  • Register yourself and sign-up from the home page
  • The registration page will be displayed, you need to provide the basic details asked on the page
  • After registering, you will receive a message on your mobile about your username
  • Login with the credentials and enter the captcha
  • You find the Pay Road Tax option here
  • Click on it, a new screen will appear asking for the registration number. Enter the number and click on the search button
  • The vehicle and the owner details will be displayed on the screen
  • In the bottom of the page, you will see the option Get Road Tax
  • After clicking, you will get all details about your vehicle and road tax, kindly fill the details and click Proceed to Payment
  • An e-Challan number will be generated for the transaction. Click and proceed the payment. You will be redirected to the payment gateway.
  • Verify your e-Challan number, amount and the name of the party. Answer the security questions and initiate the payment
  • Now, you have to select your Bank and click on e-payment option
  • You will be again redirected to the bank’s website
  • Login to the net banking, once the payment is done, you can print the e-Challan and e-Receipt

Other way is by approaching any of the district RTO offices around the state. To do so, you need to submit the forms with the detailed information of the taxpayer and the vehicle. You may also be required to submit your relevant documents to verify the ownership of the vehicle.

Goa Vehicle Tax Exemption

The following owners are exempted from the payment of the Goa vehicle:

  • Vehicle owned by the disabled person used for the sole use for their conveyance.
  • The vehicles used for agricultural purposes.
