The road tax is imposed by the Central and State Government in Mizoram. All vehicle owners within the state are liable to pay tax. In this article, we will see the various aspects of Mizoram road tax.

Mizoram Motor Vehicle Taxation Act 1996

According to the Mizoram Motor Vehicles Taxation Act 1996, every individual who owns or operates a motor vehicle is liable to pay road tax. The road tax is to be paid at the time of vehicle registration.

As per the law, no one is allowed to drive any motor vehicle without paying tax, except those who are wholly or partially exempted from tax by the State Government.

Mizoram Road Tax Calculation

The road tax in Mizoram is computed as per the regulations made by the government under the Mizoram Motor Vehicles Taxation Act. The Vahan tax is calculated on two following factors:

  • The type of vehicle, such as two-wheeler or four-wheeler
  • The purpose of the vehicle, whether it is used for transporting or personal

The calculation is based on the age of the vehicle, the purpose of the vehicle, weight, manufacture, length and width, etc. Mizoram imposes a tax, which is equivalent to a certain percentage of the cost of the vehicle.

Road Tax on Two-wheelers

The taxation for the two-wheelers is applied on the Basis of vehicle age, engine capacity, etc.

The Vahan tax for two-wheelers are as follows:

The road tax on four-wheelers is calculated on the purpose of the vehicle.

How to Pay Road Tax in Mizoram?

You can pay the tax at the Regional Transport Office (RTO). You need to fill certain forms and pay the necessary road tax in the RTO office. After completion of payment, you will receive a payment Receipt, keep it safe for the future references.
